Putting Surrey on the Map

Did you know that Surrey’s reputation in the sport hosting community is growing swiftly due to its world-class facilities, an ever-expanding volunteer base, and a proven history of hosting successful internationally-recognised events? The city’s investment in sport infrastructure, including two new Olympic-size swimming pools, now allows Surrey to compete on the global stage for tournaments and sporting events.

Surrey has played host to internationally recognized events like the 2016 Cameroon Football Federation FIFA Training Camp, the Water Polo Canada Western Conference National Championships (for three years running), the 2012 BC Summer Games, and the Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship. Pretty impressive, eh?

The good news is that these state-of-the-art sporting facilities are available for everyone to enjoy. So if you’ve always daydreamed about being an Olympic athlete but didn’t want to give up your wine hobby or commit to a rigorous training schedule, then now’s your chance.

Guildford Recreation Centre is the best place to discover your inner Sporty Spice. The facility underwent an extensive expansion and reopened to the public in 2015. The results? The Guildford Aquatic Centre, a 75,000-square-foot expansion to the existing recreation centre… and a new eight lane, 50-metre pool that can be used for regional and provincial competitions or for leisure swimming, aquacise classes and waterslides – if you’re a visitor or a local.

Guildford Rec Centre also caters to children and families in a big way. The facility features a leisure pool with fun water features, a designated toddler area, a family friendly hot tub, and a large universal change area.

In Surrey, the whole family can play at being Olympic athletes. Just make sure to pack everyone’s bathing suits!
