Glide Into Winter at Surrey’s New Outdoor Skating Rink
Surrey Civic Plaza has transformed into a festive winter hub with the arrival of Surrey’s first free outdoor skating rink. Launched during the Surrey Tree Lighting Festival on November 22, the new 4,000 square foot rink invites residents and visitors to lace up and enjoy a classic Canadian pastime in the heart of the city. The Skating at Civic Plaza program runs through Family Day weekend on February 16, 2026, giving everyone plenty of time to make the most of the season.
Whether you are stepping onto the ice for the first time or reliving a favourite Canadian winter tradition, the rink offers an easy and accessible way to celebrate the holidays with friends, family or colleagues. Skate rentals are available on site, and groups can also book ice time for gatherings, team outings or a memorable seasonal celebration.
After your skate, warm up with a hot drink from one of several nearby cafes. Prado Café, located in the Civic Hotel lobby, is a staff favourite for a quick latte or hot chocolate before heading back out into the plaza. For those looking to extend the outing, Dominion Bar + Kitchen offers handcrafted cocktails and elevated bites, perfect for winding down after a session on the ice. The plaza is also home to a growing collection of eateries and cafés, making it easy to build a full winter itinerary around your visit.
With its central location steps from SkyTrain and surrounded by shops, restaurants and festive activities, the Surrey Civic Plaza rink is already becoming one of the region’s most joyful winter destinations.
Plan your visit and enjoy the season in Surrey.
